Book Thoughts: Happier

by Caleb Wojcik · 2 comments

A while back I read a book about the psychology of happiness called Happier: Learn the Secrets to Daily Joy and Lasting Fulfillment. It was a quick and helpful read to help give me my current mindset on how happiness should be a part of my life. Here are some of my favorite quotes from the book that I still look at regularly.

“Money - beyond the bare minimum necessary for food and shelter (and I am not talking caviar and castles) - is nothing more than a means to an end. Yet so often we confuse means with ends and sacrifice happiness (end) for money (means).”

“Time is a zero-sum game, a limited resource. Life is too short to do only what we have to do; it is barely long enough to do what we want to do.”

“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs, ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” - Harold Whitman

If you are delaying happiness in your life because you think you need to or are searching for way to add more joy to your life, I’d give this book a read. You should live a life of happiness and joy because you have no reason not to.

Thanks for the quotes on this post, Caleb. I especially like the one about the world needing people to do what makes them come alive, which in turn makes others do the same.

I am a big quote person and when a quote sticks with me I think it is important to share it.

I think everyone should live the life they want and not the life they think they need to.
